Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
807 AM PDT Sat Jul 19 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
* Isolated thunderstorms are possible across the southern Great
Basin, eastern Sierra, and northwestern Arizona today.
* Temperatures rebound to near seasonal values over the weekend and
next week as dry and breezy conditions return to most of the area.
&&
.DISCUSSION...Today through Friday.
Overall atmospheric moisture has decreased across the region as the
low over southern California pulls dry air north, but enough
moisture remains over the southern Great Basin, eastern Sierra, and
northwestern Arizona to fuel convection this afternoon. PWATs are
between 100 and 150 percent of normal for this time of year in these
areas. The reduction in moisture should help mitigate the flash
flooding concerns. Small hail and gusty outflow winds are also
possible with any storms that form. The majority of activity should
be along high terrain where orographic lift will assist in storm
development. Convection will taper off in the evening with the loss
of surface heating. POPs on Sunday through Wednesday are limited to
northwestern Arizona as southwesterly flow replaces the low and the
drying trend continues.
Temperatures will rebound to near seasonal values next week due to
decreases in moisture and cloud cover. HeatRisk remains in the minor
to moderate categories, levels that primarily affect those who are
sensitive to heat. Breezy southwest winds develop as a trough digs
off of the West Coast. These winds combined with dry conditions may
produce elevated fire weather conditions in some locations.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Light
east-southeasterly winds will set up through the morning, with gusty
southerly winds picking up in the afternoon. Gust speeds will range
between 15 and 20 kts, with directional variability between 160 and
200. Gust speed and frequency will decrease after sunset. Southerly
wind gusts around 20 kts return Sunday afternoon. 10% chance of
isolated shower or thunderstorm activity in the Las Vegas Valley,
which would result in lightning and erratic wind behavior; however
the better chances will remain over the higher terrain around the
valley. No operationally significant cloud cover through the TAF
period. Temperatures will increase above 100 degrees between 19Z and
04Z.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona and
southeastern California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Gusty
southerly winds will pick up in Las Vegas Valley and Colorado River
Valley TAF sites this afternoon, with gust speeds generally between
15 and 20 kts. Gust speed and frequency will decrease after sunset.
KBIH will gust from the south-southeast this afternoon, though there
is a 30 percent chance that vicinity thunderstorms result in
erratic, gusty winds impacting the terminal, with gust speeds
between 30 and 35 kts. KDAG will gust from the west-southwest around
sunset between 20 and 25 kts. No operationally significant cloud
cover through the TAF period.
&&
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
