.KEY MESSAGES...

* Gusty conditions will continue through the weekend. This will
lead to areas of blowing dust, difficult driving conditions, and
hazardous boating conditions on area lakes.

* Light shower activity is possible across the region Sunday and
Monday, with the best chances across the Southern Great Basin
  and higher terrain.

.DISCUSSION...through next weekend.

Seasonably strong closed 500mb low is currently approaching the
northern California coast, placing our region in an active
southwesterly flow pattern. Surface pressure gradients have
tightened since this morning and will continue to increase into
the evening. Surface winds have already begun responding with
early afternoon wind gusts of 25-35 mph fairly common across the
deserts and high terrain, mainly north of I-40. 850 mb winds will
continue to increase as the closed low approaches tonight, and
strong winds will persist into the evening hours across much of
eastern CA and southern Nevada, especially in favorable downslope
areas. As such, went ahead and issued a wind advisory starting at
5 pm this afternoon for those areas, which expands to include much
of Northwest Arizona after 11am Sunday. Strongest winds will occur
Sunday afternoon as the closed low moves into the Great Basin.

Aside from the winds, some light precipitation potential will
accompany the storm system as it moves through Sunday but overall
impacts will be very minor, and generally reserved for the higher
terrain and southern Great Basin. Exception will be across the
Sierra where 3-7 inches of snow remains expected by Sunday
afternoon above 8000 feet. Some lingering precipitation chances
persist into Monday as cold air aloft remains overhead and may
encourage some convective shower development, mainly across the
southern Great Basin.

Improving conditions will return Tuesday and Wednesday as flat
high pressure ridging attempts to build in. However, a shortwave
moving inland over the PacNW may attempt to drop southward
Thursday across the Great Basin and central Rockies. Forecast
guidance is struggling to resolve this feature which may remain
progressive with only a subtle cooling Thursday and Friday, or, if
the more aggressive solutions pan out, bring sharper cooling and
gusty winds. For now, forecast remains fairly conservative with
modest cooling and breezy conditions on Thursday.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package...South-
southwest winds remain elevated throughout the TAF period, although
gusts will diminish at times after 05z. Gusts will remain around 30
knots, but will lower to around 20 knots overnight. Winds will once
again increase after 18z Sunday with gusts to around 35 knots with
the direction remaining around 200-230 degrees. Few to scattered
clouds at or above 15kft.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Gusty southerly to
westerly winds across the region through Sunday. Gusts of 15-30
knots are likely into this evening, gradually weakening after
sunset, but will increase Monday with gusts between 30-35 knots. Dry
conditions prevail across most areas through this evening with
mostly high clouds. However, rain chances creep up to ~40% in the
Owens Valley and southwestern Great Basin late tonight as
precipitation tries to spill over the Sierra. CIGs 6-10kft in and
around any precipitation. Precipitation chances will decrease near
KBIH late Sunday morning, but a few showers will be possible over
the southern Great Basin, mainly over the higher elevations Sunday
afternoon.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
